Couples Therapy

Couples therapy is helpful for many relationship issues where both members of the relationship are interested in participating in therapy. Couples therapy provides a safe space and a collaborative approach to all sort of problems that can arise in a relationship, for example:

  • Difficulty communicating

  • Managing transitions such as living together, marriage, illness, loss, aging parents and children

  • Parenting differences

  • Building healthy household routines

  • Strengthening intimacy

  • Building trust

  • Breaking cycles of bickering and arguments

  • Recovering from an affair

  • Exploring how to have fun and feel connected

Couples therapy focuses on identifying patterns and environmental factors creating barriers within a relationship. Then the focus becomes generating tools to support healthier communication and interaction to create trust, support and connection.

Evidence-based couples therapy interventions include Emotion-Focused Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, Imago Relationship Therapy, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy
