Couples Therapy
Couples therapy is helpful for many relationship issues where both members of the relationship are interested in participating in therapy. Couples therapy provides a safe space and a collaborative approach to all sort of problems that can arise in a relationship, for example:
Difficulty communicating
Managing transitions such as living together, marriage, illness, loss, aging parents and children
Parenting differences
Building healthy household routines
Strengthening intimacy
Building trust
Breaking cycles of bickering and arguments
Recovering from an affair
Exploring how to have fun and feel connected
Couples therapy focuses on identifying patterns and environmental factors creating barriers within a relationship. Then the focus becomes generating tools to support healthier communication and interaction to create trust, support and connection.
Evidence-based couples therapy interventions include Emotion-Focused Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, Imago Relationship Therapy, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy.
